Exmouth-based Edge Watersports has announced that its annual Edge Race Cup has once again been selected as the second event of the prestigious British Kite Surfing Association’s UK tour.

The Edge Race Cup takes place this weekend (June 15, 16) and is regarded as one of the top UK race fixtures.

Steph Bridge, owner of Edge Watersports and four times world race champion, said: “We are delighted that Exmouth has been recognised as a fantastic location for kite-surfing. The conditions are perfect for the sport and word about the success of our previous events has obviously spread. We have people attending from across the UK as well as participants from around the world who use the event as training practice for bigger competitions. I can confirm that joining me in the top IKA standard race is Ollie Bridge, the Youth World Race Champion and Callum Edge, two times British Champion. This year we also welcome round the world yachtsman Conrad Humphreys who will run a stand-up paddle board race.”

The event which is now in its fourth year is sponsored by Exeter-based ATASS Group, features a race board category for professionals and an open class for those less experienced. If conditions allow there will be a long distance race as well as a separate sprint course new for this year. Prizes will be awarded to overall winners in each class including top cash prizes and high quality industry related equipment.

Bridge explained that it was a great opportunity for anyone to see how well they do against the best in the world, saying: “The open class is all about getting people involved and excited about racing. It’ll be great fun and there’s no need for anyone to feel intimidated because it’s open to anyone who can kite-surf. There is also a great chance to mingle with all the competitors on Saturday evening with a party on the beach.”
