At home Sidmouth also won, 45-43 overall: W Turner, B Smith, P Clements, P Wilson (skip) 26-17. K Bridgman, E Mills, T Pritchard, B Boddy (skip) 19-26.On Saturday, the 18th, Devon Bowling Association played Wiltshire BA in a representative games at Sidmouth and Madeira. One Devon rink contained four Sidmouth bowlers, Tony Brown, John Wall, Norman Brimson and Peter Wilson (skip). These games give bowlers the opportunity to gain their county badges. I am told that the Sidmouth rink was the highest scoring of the day.The club held its annual outdoor supper and prize giving evening on Friday. This is always a popular event and the 80 available places were taken very quickly. Jill Bishop and her helpers, as usual, organised everything with seamless efficiency and I feel sure that everyone who attended had a wonderful evening, even if they did not take home any silverware.Sidmouth played Exonia both home and away in the first round of the Denny Cup. As expected, Sidmouth lost on all four rinks but Exonia showed their respect by fielding nine county bowlers and their home rinks were skipped by current internationals Robert Paxton and Ian Bond. Strangely the scores did not distract from the Sidmouth teams having a rewarding and friendly experience. The names of members who are selected for this competition are recorded and may help towards them gaining their county badges. Home: D Holland, P Mison, B Smith, J White (skip); W Rogers, J Davies, B Mortimer, M Smith (skip). Away: K Bridgman, D Mountford, B Daniels, W Turner (skip). R Tallent, B Hague, T Pritchard, B Boddy (skip).l I happened to be at the club last Tuesday afternoon, helping my wife with her tea duty, when I noticed once again that two members had forgotten to turn up for their triples match. If you really want to annoy five other people without trying, that is the way forward. Unfortunately this problem seems to be getting more prevalent both in the triples and the 'twitchers' leagues. The only solution I can think of is that the team leaders make the necessary phone calls prior to the match, to remind members. Quite a task but surely better than losing points and gaining a reputation. Any other solutions gratefully received. Having said all that, on Thursday evening, however, a member, who shall remain nameless, turned up one week early for his match!
