Sidmouth Rugby Club was sad to announce the death of Life Member Derek (Bunny) Palmer at the age of 90.
Derek was the club’s oldest member, having joined the club after the Second World War and played for the Colts. After retiring from playing in the 1960s, he joined the committee on which he served until 1995.
Derek was one of a group of players who built the original clubhouse, which opened in 1961, and the extension opened in 1969.
Derek was part of the club that saw rugby in Sidmouth enjoy a resurgence in the 1970s after a slump in the decade after the war, and the development of the clubhouse played a significant role in raising the match-day experience for everyone at Blackmore.
The condolences of everyone from Sidmouth Rugby Club and across the community go to Derek’s family and friends.
