A superbly struck free-kick from Ben Farrington sealed a terrific 3-2 success for Town at Brixham.

In a cracking contest the Vikings led twice before being pegged back, but after the Farrington strike they closed the game out in style to record their fifth win of the season and open a seven point gap between them and the bottom two.

One interesting fact as November is reached – the Vikings are the only team in the Eastern Division yet to draw a match!

Rikki Pitter and Cameron Vere scored the goals that saw Town lead 1-0 and then 2-1.

At half-time the teams trooped off all square at 2-2 and the second half served up 45 minutes of end-to-end football with the winner arriving as the clock ticked down!

When Town were awarded a free-kick some 25-yards out, up stepped Farrington to arrow the ball into the top corner of the net.

Sidmouth boss Josh Stunell said: “I felt we deserved to win. For me, a big factor was I put two new faces in the dressing room and that, as it tends to do, made the lads perk up and realise that maybe their places were on the line. I had targeted Brixham away as a three-pointer, and so it was.”

Ben Farrington and Gary Dixon were the two new faces, both had previously played at Town, but more recently have been playing their football at Sidbury United in the Fresha League top flight.

On Saturday (October 31) the Vikings have the task of trying to become the first team to beat the only unbeaten side in the Eastern Division, Tiverton Town.

Stunell says: “Usually we go out with the mind set of looking to score more goals that the opposition. However, the bottom line is I doubt we can, or could, outplay a Tiverton Town side that does have greater resources than we have. That means we have to play a different way and make life very difficult for them. If my lads perform as I we have worked on and I know they can then it is going to be a horrid afternoon for Tivvy.”

Sidmouth are the second highest scorers in the Eastern Division with only table-topping St Martins, with their 36 goals in 12 outings better than the Vikings’ 30 from 12.
