IT IS fast approaching the end of the indoor season, and bowlers are looking forward to the start of the celebrations of the 100 years of the sport in Sidmouth. Club president "Sir" Tom Reynolds held his Presidents Day last week, where 48 bowlers took part in the two sessions of bowls with wine being the prize for the top rink. The tea provided by the ladies was the usual high standard appreciated at these events. Just four days later there was the men's captain versus the vice-captain event which again followed closely the President's high turn out of members. The Potbury's Indoor League has played the final games of the season with the winning team coming from Exonia with Madeira being runners up. The club would like to give thanks to the way Potbury's has very generously continued to sponsor this league over the years. The Centenary outdoor season begins in earnest the last week of April, but on April 21 there will be the opening drive when the new flag will be unfurled from the mast. Sidmouth are having the English Bowling Association, now known as World Bowls, sending a mixed team to play the club in May, and the first two weeks in June will be the official celebration fortnight. Sidmouth will be playing local friends of long standing, but more on that nearer the date.l Sidmouth provided three more county bowlers recently when John Mason John Wall and Harold Casson received their Lapel Badge for their first county match, which was played against Wiltshire. They need to play in two more county matches to receive the full County Badge.
