Last Thursday, over 50 members from Sidmouth Bowling Club travelled down to the Victoria Hotel in Torquay for the 21st annual bowling weekend.

For the last six years these trips have been organised by Evelyn and Peter Clements and are very much enjoyed by all those who attend.

There were three two-hour sessions each day against teams from Bitton Park, Bovey Tracey, Tim’s Tours (Taunton Vivary), Page Park and Kings, with a practice session on the Thursday evening after dinner and a final match on Sunday morning.

Of the seven matches played, Sidmouth were pleased to have won six. Good company, good food and good weather combined to make the weekend a most enjoyable experience for all.

Prize money was awarded to the winners of each session and it was good to see some of Sidmouth’s newer members, at Torquay for their first weekend, receiving prizes. Evelyn and Peter work hard to make these weekends so enjoyable and at the prize giving they were presented with a card signed by everyone, together with a voucher for a meal at their favourite Sidmouth venue.

Three ladies’ teams went to Madeira for a friendly match. Sidmouth lost overall by 42-53 but won by two rinks to one. Well done to the winning rinks of Chrissy Wells, Sheila Ingyon, Zena Johnson and Sylvia Cook, and Mary Turner, Carol Keating, Jenny Fricker and Jill Bishop who both won by 15-14.

Sidmouth Men played another round in the DCIBA Interclub League on a home and away basis, this time against Kingsley.

They are always difficult opposition but, after a keenly-contested game, Sidmouth were the winners by three rinks to one and by 83- 65. Well done to all concerned, particularly Sidmouth’s best rink of Rob Cartlidge, Chas Coates, Dennis Denner and Bob Seldon who won by 25- 14.
