SIDMOUTH head for the County Ground, Exeter, on Sunday for the final of the Devon Senior Cup against Sandford.But the deluge that washed out any league action for the second successive week means the club has three more 'cup finals' - the remaining two league matches of the season at home to Exeter tomorrow and away to Plympton next week plus the county Twenty20 competition at Torquay on August 31.The Twenty20 finals day was originally scheduled for last Sunday, but Torquay's ground was declared unfit even before Saturday's downpours.Wins against Exeter and Plympton would surely give Sidmouth the Francis Clark Devon Cricket League championship for only the second time - the last occasion was 1988.Budleigh, who were due to host table-topping Sidmouth last week, are currently four points behind in second place. They face Plympton tomorrow and relegation-threatened Exmouth next week so could consider themselves to have the easier run-in.The decimation of the league programme means most clubs have had six matches - a third of the available games - already cancelled or abandoned. The conclusion is that whoever ends up top of the table there has only been one winner this season, the weather.l Sidmouth 2nd XI carry out County Ground reconnaissance for the 1st XI with their match against Exeter tomorrow. Victory would all but assure them of the Premier 2nd XI division title. Defeat would set up a winner-takes-all match with Plympton at the Fort Field next week.An interested spectator at such an encounter would be 2nd XI captain Saj Patidar, now recovering from the double fractured leg he sustained two weeks ago in Sidmouth's Devon Cup semi final victory against Budleigh. Last November he laid a £50 bet with Plympton's Lee Mundell about the destiny of the title.l The 3rd XI are at Bicton College facing Hatherleigh who are in a three-way battle for one of the two promotion places in the 2nd XI A Division.
