Finals day at Sidmouth a great success
Winners and runners up from all competitions
Even at 10am last Sunday, the Sidmouth Tennis Club Finals Day looked in doubt with heavy rain and gales but the event incredibly started on time at 11:30am with the six junior finals followed by five of the adult matches with a 6pm finish. There was an excellent crowd throughout the day with a number of the matches going to tie breaks, ensuring a good spectacle. It was great to see several of the individuals, firms and organisations turn out to make their presentations.
It is inappropriate to single out individuals from the list of competitors as the overall quality and strength of competition speaks volumes for the progress that the club has made in recent years.
However, it is more than appropriate to express gratitude to those members who worked so hard not only on the day, but for weeks beforehand, arranging the competition. Take a bow club coach Sue Wiltshire, junior competition coordinator Debbie Snelgrove, her counterpart for the seniors, Nicki Keele, and secretary Di Kendall-Torry, who did a variety of jobs. The three competitions still to be decided, namely the Men’s Singles, the Rusties and Girls’ U14s, will be completed over the next few weeks
On Saturday, November 13, a club dinner will be followed by the presentations to the competition winners, and a bumper attendance is anticipated.
