Sidmouth Bowls Club concluded the indoor season with a magnificent weekend of finals and so good to see some new faces in the biggest matches.
In the Club Mixed Championship, experienced bowler Andrew Lowe took on the relative novice John Richards. After a tough start, John clawed his way back to just two shots down after 22 ends. On the following end, Andrew managed to get the two shots required for the win. Congratulations Andrew, and to John, who beat several good bowlers to reach the final.
In the Ladies Championship Singles, Jill Bishop won against Jane Painter but the Men’s Singles was postponed due to illness. Andrew Lowe defeated Mike Tuohy in the Men’s Matchplay Singles.
In the Mixed Pairs, Sheila Faulkner & Mick Cox won against Carol Timms & Alun Brown, while Paula Button & Susie Bonnell secured the Ladies Pairs, defeating Mary Turner & Jill Bishop. Andrew Lowe & Ian Dudley won the Men’s Pairs against David Butler & Wilf Radburn.
In the Ladies Joan Jeffrey 4's Competition, Jan J Bates, Chris Radburn, Karen Hollingdale & skip Jane Painter won against Mary Meadows, Carol Timms, Anita Mason & skip Jill Bishop.
On to another thrilling finale, this time in the Sidmouth League Champions, an invitational Men’s tournament.
This competition has now been going strong for some 48 years and is played throughout the indoor season. It has been sponsored for over 30 years by our local business Potbury's, for which we are extremely grateful.
This year’s League Champions came from Feniton BC and were first-time winners, while Madeira of Exmouth took the League Cup for the 7th year.
The trophies and gifts were presented by Men’s Captain Phil Meadows and Stuart Hamer, the competition organiser.
Finally, just one friendly match for Sidmouth, which was three triples away to Madeira men and Sidmouth won overall by 57 -43. However, one rink was won by an enormous score of 26 -8, this probably won the match for Sidmouth, so our thanks go to Phil Meadows, John Richards and skip Wilf Radburn.
