Tiverton Town Girls U13s, Ottery Firegirls U13sThe U13 Firegirls were away to Tiverton Town in this game on a Siberian-like February Sunday morning. But the Firegirls tried to warm things up from the start, captain Lara Feast winning the toss and opting to play with the wind. They were soon 1-0 up with confidence going forward and three more goals came in quick succession from Kallie Horner and Jess Jenkins, two each. The strength of Deryn Spencer and Abby Cartwright supporting down the wings added to the forward momentum. Things began to change when the Firegirls started to leave the back door open and Tiverton were able to capitalise on the gaps left in midfield by the over confident Firegirls and they pulled the score line back to 4-2. The game was much closer now with the defence of Lara Feast and Sammy Layzell closing and tackling well and goal keeper Zoe Packer also pulling off some confident saves. The score at half time was 6-3 to the Firegirls with one more goal each from Kallie and Jess. The second half saw Tiverton pushing forward but Jess made it 7-3 before tracking back let Tiverton pull it back to 7-6. The Firegirls had the final say to make the full time score 8-6. There were so many positives from this match, the main ones being the way the ball was moved around the pitch and the vision that the players are showing. A very good performance from all the girls. Well done, bring on any team in the league now.
