Sidmouth Under-9s began their contact rugby careers with resounding 7-4 and 8-1 wins over visiting Withycombe, writes Rob Bolton.
On a glorious October morning, and with the fresh turf of the new Sidford Prettyjohn Field under their feet, the Sidmouth squad moulded a fantastic first performance during the two matches they played.
Withycombe were strong in the attack throughout, but Sidmouth’s evolving discipline in the defensive lines and strong counter attacks were too much for the opposition to contain.
Pre-season training seems to of had the desired effect.
What is clear is that there’s a real desire to learn and also enjoy whilst learning and, for a first time outing in the realms of contact rugby there were more smiles than any of us could have wished for!
