OTTERY St Mary are still bottom of the South West Peninsular League Division 1 East - but Saturday's victory over Appledore has been one of the biggest spurs to the club this season.
Manager Andy Phillips said: "It was a massive boost, this. And really for the first time for some time, I think we are beginning to look good.
"We have been bringing in players left, right and centre. They have been a lot of changes.
"It will take time but I am confident that we shall turn things around. And, as I say, the win over Appledore, has given us a real lift."
Appledore are fifth in the league. Ottery St Mary, having previously drawn two games, now have five points and are two points behind second bottom Okehampton.
In a tight game on Saturday, Dan Jewell scored the only goal of the match - a great header from a cross from Ben Murby.
Andy Phillips brought in a good half dozen players for this match and it worked well.
l Ottery are at home to Newton Abbot Spurs on Wednesday, November 11 (7.30pm), and home again on November 14 against Totnes and Dartington.
