Fluxton look to bounce back at Uplowman

Fluxton have endured a seesaw campaign so far and no fixture is more of a testament to that than their controversial 4-3 defeat at Otterton a fortnight ago, writes Jordan Cooper.

With ten minutes remaining, holding a 3-1 lead over the league leaders, Fluxton must have been sure they had the win all but wrapped up.

The Otters had other ideas, however, as they grabbed a goal to bring them back into the game as the clock wound down before controversy ensued.

An Otterton corner appeared to have swung out of play, but the flag stayed down and the hosts tied the game, much to Fluxton’s dismay. After a discussion with his linesman, the referee awarded the goal and suddenly from a winning position, Fluxton found themselves with their backs against the wall.

Then, in injury time the comeback for Otterton was complete after the referee awarded them a penalty that Si Tuley converted confidently. Fluxton had a couple of opportunities to tie the game, but fell short and succumbed to their third 4-3 defeat of the season.

They had last weekend’s home game against Silverton called off as a result of the weather, but will be determined to bounce back with a win when they travel to secondd place Uplowman this Saturday to begin a month that sees them face many of Fresha Division Six’s top sides.
