Fluxton marched on with a 3-1 home triumph over Starcross Generals, writes Olly Paget.

As the opposition name might suggest (a military element), their footballing style confirmed it! Generals served up a physical style, but the men in green (and pink) stood firm to deservedly bank the points and continue their march up the Fresha League Division Five table.

Fluxton took the lead on the half hour mark when Hart illustrated his natural instinct for goal, neatly converting from the edge of the box after Figures had outmuscled the Generals’ gloveman.

After the break, both teams continued in the same vein. Flux’s defence held a tight back line, the central midfield trio had control, Rapps and Clothier-Smith wreaked havoc on the wings, and Figures continued to impose himself upfront. The Generals barked and bit. Plenty of chances came and went for Fluxton, plenty of yellow cards for Starcross.

When the visitors eventually had a shot on target, it’s journey to the top left corner was diverted by Sercombe’s flying finger-tip save. The man in pink then turned provider for Fluxton’s rather ugly second goal; his big kick was nodded on by Figures into the path of Olly Paget, who took plenty of time to get the ball from under his feet before eventually prodding home.

Fluxton were in cruise control until the Generals were awarded a weak penalty for something that apparently happened in the box - no one’s quite sure what. Their marksman gleefully hit the target, setting the stage for their final assault. But it was Fluxton who struck again with Figures’ powerfully converted penalty, after Clothier-Smith’s trickery had drawn a swipe from an angry General.

Fluxton remain unbeaten in the league and hope to continue their winning streak on Saturday when they host Honiton Town 2nds.
