Ottery Firegirls U13s 0, LFC Sparta U13s 2 On a cold frosty morning at Washbrook Meadows, Ottery welcomed LFC Sparta to their ground. LFC passed the ball around nicely early on and Ottery looked defensive in the early stages. Ottery couldn't hold out for very long and were soon trailing 1-0. Soon after though the Firegirls started to wake up and pass the ball around fluently as they did last week against West Exe. Ottery had a few good chances in the half however they were not able to put them away due to some excellent keeping by the LFC Sparta stopper. After their earlier efforts, Sparta were unable to add to the score thanks to some excellent defending by Ebony, Ella and Zoe in goal. At half time Ottery substitutions were made. Ottery really wanted to score and get a win under their belts, but they fell apart at the back soon after the break and conceded. Keeper Zoe, punching the ball over the bar, kept Sparta from scoring another quick goal and Ottery stepped it up a gear and came close with Kallie and Jess creating some excellent opportunities. Sparta changed formation which left Ottery with three in defence and lacking in attack. However, up at the front Laura did exceptionally well. Ottery really pushed towards the LFC Sparta goal in the last 15 minutes and got some more shots away which only led to corners. Captain Lara pushed forward from defence to take the corners and throws and had an excellent game, proving why she is captain. At full time it ended 2-0 to LFC Sparta and Ottery, towards the end of the match, proved they were able to challenge and get forward. This week the girls have the return to West Exe in the cup where Ottery currently trail 2-0 but are looking to score a few and progress in the competition. The return of Sammy in defence and other players returning to more familiar positions should boost their efforts. Girl of the Match goes to Zoe in goal with some excellent saves and kicking and staying focussed throughout the match. Ottery line-up: Zoe, Ebony, Ella, Lara, Kallie, Jo-Jo, Jess.
