Sidmouth Vikings Under-9s were involved in a brace of draws when they met Cullompton opposition in their latest matches.

First up they took on Cullompton B and took control of the action early on. In the opening exchanges a Charlie Carstairs cross was met by Herbie Isherwood who drew a good save from the Cully glovesman.

Soon after a cross from Sam Hartland was again met by Isherwood and once again the Cully goalkeeper was equal to the effort.

When a free-kick was awarded to the Vikings it was taken by Owen Badlam who promptly rifled the ball home to net the first ever goal the team had scored!

Cully replied and, from the penalty spot, levelled things up.

The Vikings, with Kai Prendergast again showing his bravery and confidence in defence, and Herbie Isherwood, Owen Badlam and Freya Horler making life difficult for the Cully defence, were always looking likely to score next and so they did when Badlam notched his second.

It was in the dying embers of the game that Cully struck again to ensure honours ended even.

The second game saw the young Vikings play Cullompton A. Once again Owen Badlam was outstanding, with strong contributions from him in defence, as well as some fantastic running with the ball. In one such charge forward he eased past a number of players before tucking the ball beyond the keeper and into the net to give Vikings the lead. Just two minutes later parity was restored and that was that in terms of the goal scoring.

The Vikings went close to finding a second goal; Isherwood saw a couple of free-kicks go marginally wide while, at the other end, defenders Michael Byrne and Prendergast were superb.

With the game into the final minute a handball in the area saw Cully awarded a penalty.

The spot kick was struck hard enough, but Vikings goalkeeper Ben Gale made the save to ensure that his team ended the morning unbeaten.

The Man of the Match awards went to Herbie Isherwood and Owen Badlam.
