Sidmouth Under-15s were 3-2 winners when they visited Okehampton for an Exeter and District Youth League game.
A second successive victory moved the team up to fifth in the Division One table, but they had to work hard for their latest success.
They started well, showing greater composure than they had displayed when winning seven days before.
The early pressure eventually paid dividends and, when Max Peacock chased down a through-ball, a pressured home glovesman knocked the ball into the path of Louis Spalding and he calmly knocked it past him!
Sidmouth continued to squeeze the home defence with Spalding, Peacock and Max Goodier prominent before a comical own-goal doubles the visitors lead. Okehampton came back strongly and only a couple of stunning saves by glovesman Louis Adey enabled Sidmouth to take a 2-0 lead into the interval.
After half-time the Vikings found the swirling wind more of a problem and lost momentum. Okehampton pulled a goal back and could have levelled the scores if second-half keeper Sam Fernley hadn’t made several superb blocks.
At the other end a great attacking move saw Peacock set up an opportunity for Tom Moore who fired into the corner to make it 3-1.
The home side came back strongly and reduced the arrears with their second to set up an intense last few minutes, but the Sidmouth defence held firm to record a terrific – and richly deserved – success.
