Newton Poppleford looking to end barren run against Cully Rangers

It’s been a season of struggle and toil for Newton Poppleford to date in their Fresha One campaign.

That said the villagers have won plaudits without exception against all comers for their sprit and attitude as they continue to battle in the face of real adversity.

Limited player numbers combined with unavailability and injury has hampered the Popples cause.

Eighteen league and cup outings have seen the team lose eighteen times conceding 96 goals to date whilst scoring just 13.

They end the year and start the new year with home matches.

Next up they entertain a Cullompton Rangers side that sit immediately above them at the foot of the Fresha One table and so it presents a real opportunity of breaking their duck!

The odds of them starting 2014 with a victory are very long for they host table-topping Elmore on January 4. The Tiverton-based Eagles beat the Popples 8-0 on the opening day of the season!

January then continues with a home game with Wellington (Jan 18) and a visit to third bottom Tipton St John (Jan 25).
