Ottery due upturn in fortunes

Ottery St Mary manager Dave Weeks is pleased to have a full squad available for this Saturday’s visit to Exeter University (3pm).

When the clubs met at Washbrook Meadow, earlier this season, they drew 1-1, with the Otters feeling they deserved more from the game.

Weeks, who has plenty of players signed on, is hoping that the positivity of that game carries on against the students - who may well be suffering from ‘freshers’ flu’.

Last week the club dipped to a 7-0 defeat against third from top of the league Exmouth Town in the Throgmorton Cup.

Weeks said: “Well, we were expecting that. I had major unavailability pre-match, and on the morning of the match our goalkeeper phoned in sick. We will just put that behind us. I have plenty of players signed on, in fact for Saturday I will be pondering over who to leave out.

“There is plenty of optimism at Ottery. Of course we will struggle against the clubs who are paying players, but hopefully we will be able to pick up quality players who really want to play for the club. Every club that doesn’t pay is in the same boat.”

Ottery are kept off the bottom of the Peninsula League Div One Esst by Axminster Town, while Galmpton and Okehampton challenge for top spot.
