Sidbury United ready for the Eagles challenge

Sidbury United will hope the weather enables them to make a belated start to their 2015 programme this Saturday (January 10) when they are set to entertain Elmore.
Byes Lane was unfit for action last Saturday so the Fresha League Premier meeting with Thorverton went the same way all but one of the day’s top flight matches went – washed out! The only Premier Division game to survive was the one at Topsham Town where Seaton were beaten 7-2.
United drew 1-1 with Elmore when the pair met in Tiverton on December 6. The Eagles have a better record away from their Horsdon Park home where they have won just once in five outings this season whilst, on the road, they have won four times.
They’ve been successful at Chard, Topsham, University and Newtown, the latter being the last time they won a Fresha League game, Saturday, October 25.
United of course, continue to sport an unbeaten record at Byes Lane that stretches back to 2013.
Last season Elmore did the double over United on their way to landing the Fresha League One title (United finished second). The Eagles won 1-0 at Horsdon Park in March and also won the Byes Lane meeting 4-3. However, since that September 21, 2013, defeat to Elmore only Beacon Knights and Witheridge Reserves have left Byes lane victorious after Fresha League matches!
Byes Lane chief Jeremy Schofield says: “It’s frustrating when you can’t get a game having prepared well in midweek. That said it’s the same for everyone so we just have to accept it and make sure that we make up for the lack of action the next time we play! The Elmore game will be tough as we had a cracking match with them at their place before Christmas. Our superb home record is something I know the players are very proud of and I am sure they’ll be doing all they can to ensure that by full-time on Saturday the record is intact!”
