Sidmouth Raiders 3, West Exe 4

Sidmouth Raiders Under-11s managed to beat the weather for the first time this year, but couldn’t overcome West Exe in a seven goal thriller.

Samuel Burhop put the home side ahead inside the first minute chipping over the West Exe keeper from the edge of the box. Both sides then enjoyed some good possession before the visitors equalised. The Raiders dominated the majority of the rest of the first half, putting together some excellent passing moves but just failing to find the killer instinct in front of goal.

Burhop eventually found the net for the second time to put the Raiders 2-1 up, but West Exe hit back with two quick goals, including one excellent header, as the Raiders tired.

Playing without any substitutes proved too much for the Raiders and tired legs were on display as they conceded again.

However, they dug deep and with some fine defending and good goalkeeping no further goals were shipped.

The deficit was reduced when Robbie Hallett cut in from the left and unleashed a fierce shot into the net, but that fine strike provide too late to spark a comeback as time, the heavy pitch, tired legs and West Exe combined to beat the valiant Raiders.

It was a truly great effort nonetheless.
