Sidmouth Town are in action tonight when they travel to Crediton United (7.30pm) for a game that will surely determine who ends up with the South West Peninsula League Eastern Division wooden spoon this season.
With four matches to play the Vikings trail the Mid Devon side by seven points and defeat tonight would confirm their basement status in the final table.
Town are back in action next Tuesday evening when stage an attractive looking East Devon derby with Axminster Town and they play their final home league game a week tomorrow (May 4) when Exeter Civil Service are the visitors’.
The curtain comes down on a difficult campaign for all concerned at Town on Saturday, May 11 when they entertain Okehampton Argyle.
Town played twice last week, first going down 4-1 at third bottom Plymstock United before losing yet again by just a single goal when they travelled to Alphington on Tuesday night.
The 1-0 reversal in Exeter was the 11th time in 19 defeats that Town have been beaten by just a single goal.
They complete their away programme tonight at Crediton and to date, of their eleven away defeats, no fewer than eight have been by a single goal margin!
After the defeat at Plymstock United Town boss Paddy Thomas lamented: “To say I am disappointed is a massive understatement. For the first time in months the majority of players let themselves down. We cannot make excuses for players missing as the squad was good enough for a 20 minute period in the second half to test an average side. Unfortunately for the other 70 minutes we were not at our best and you can’t succeed in this league when that happens.”
