Sidmouth Town Junior Vikings Under-15 were taken to extra-time by Tiverton before winning by the odd goal in seven to make progress in the Exeter and District League KO Cup.

What made the young Vikings success all the more remarkable was that they had lost 3-0 just seven days before when the teams had met in a league game!

The Vikings made a flying start, scoring twice in as many early minutes. When Max Peacock was fouled on the edge of the box, Max Salter curled a sweetly-struck free-kick that cannoned back off the bar to Ben Goodier who tapped it home.

Moments later Goodier slotted home after a perfect through ball from Peacock.

Tivvy were next to score, this despite some disciplined defending from Ollie Truman and Sam Fernly, with a 27th minute goal.

Only a couple of stunning saves by goalkeeper James Emmett meant Vikings held a 2-1 lead at the interval,

After the break a number of Vikings players were subjected top some crude tackling by the Tivvy players; Matt Salter and Will Ashby both suffered from tackles that left them needing treatment.

With the injuries mounting Toby Garrick shoed his versatility, switching to a number of positions. Tivvy evened things up and then took a 3-2 lead, but this Vikings team has plenty of character and it came to the fore once more and the pressure mounted before Louis Spalding latched on to a through-ball to lob the advancing keeper and take the game into extra time.

In extra-time Sidmouth were the dominant team. Louis Salter, Ben Goodier and Max Peacock hassled and harried on the left hand side and created an opportunity for Salter to slot home and seal a terrific victory.

The Man of the Match award took plenty of thought given the heroics throughout the team and ultimately it was shared by Sam Fernly, Ben Goodier and James Emmett.
