Sidmouth Town Reserves - what a difference a day makes

PUBLISHED: 07:19 27 April 2018

What a difference a week makes in terms of the Sidmouth Town second team.

Just six days after lifting the Devon Senior Cup, with that 2-0 success over Colyton, defeating the only unbeaten side in the Macron League Division One in the process.

However, all that went out of the window on Wednesday night as the Vikings second string went down 4-0 at Lyme Regis.

That said, lots of things conspired to go against Town on the night. None more so than five of the cup final squad being called up to first team duty and another four being unavailable. Added to that the fact that they were asked to play on what was a totally unsuitable surface at Lyme Regis.

Joint manager Paddy Thomas said: “For the second time in four days the team lacked sufficient quality to compete at this level. That’s not meant to be a dig at either the players, who were prepared to step up and give it a go, or indeed the second team management. But bit was a bitterly disappointing experience all round.”

Tomorrow, the Town second team travel to Chard to meet Perry Street for another league outing.
