Sidmouth Town Under-15s put Heavies to the sword

Sidmouth Town Under-15s moved into a top three berth in the Exeter and District League with a 5-2 win at Sidford against visiting Heavitree.
The Town youngsters made a flying start and could, perhaps should, have been two up inside five minutes!
A superb cross from Louis Adey was met with a brilliant full stretch volley from Jack Miller which whistled just over the crossbar and shortly after that home centre forward Tom Moore pulled his shot wide when through one-on-one with the Heavies glovesman.
The Exeter side responded with their main tactic – a long ball over the top for their pacey forwards to run on to. Although most of these were snuffed out by Toby Garrick, Sam Fernly and Ollie Truman, one through ball ended up with keeper James Emmett bringing down the visiting centre forward and the visitors took a 1-0 lead from the penalty spot.
Town levelled before the break when Matt Salter latched on to a through-ball from Moore and fired the ball beyond the glovesman.
Half-time tinkering led to the home side immediately taking control from the restart.
Ben Goodier, Salter, Miller and Jacob Rice took the midfield by the scruff of the neck, while the left hand combination of Adey and Jimmy Ogley kept possession superbly.
The home side deservedly took the lead when Goodier controlled superbly from a Miller through-ball to slot home.
Heavitree responded and levelled with a near post header from a corner.
That merely served to see the home side step up a gear. Miller and Salter did the approach work prior to Goodier firing Town ahead and, when Goodier was upended after a mazy run, Salter slotted the free-kick with a powerful strike that arrowed into the top left corner of the net.
In true ‘saving the best for last’ tradition, Man of the Match Miller skipped past three players before finding the net at the near post to complete the scoring.
