Sidmouth Warriors Under-11s finally got their season up and running, sharing four goals with Moors Hawks.
Warriors made a good and fast start and some slick passing involving Ben Fisher and Oliver Beech ended with Charlie Roberts stinging the Moors goalkeepers fingers as he made a fine save.
It was against the run of play that hawks took the lead with a long-range strike. Warriors were clearly affected by the goal and some slack passing led to them falling behind! They regrouped and settled once more into good ball possession and had there been touchline technology available Warriors would surely have had a goal back before the break when a Charlie Roberts shot looked to be well over the line before being hacked clear – the match official did not award the goal!
From the start of the second half Warriors went onto the attack and began to create chances – lots of them! They finally got their just rewards when Ewan Badcock pressured a defender with the result the ball ended up in the back of the Hawks net!
The equaliser arrived soon after following a stupendous run forward by centre half Freddie Eul Barker that ended with a Hawks defender pushing the ball beyond his despairing goalkeeper!
Now level, Warriors went in search of a winner. They gave their all and came close a number of times. However, it was not all one-way and Warriors glovesman Freddie Roberts was forced to make some fine saves to ensure his side got a point for their superb efforts.
