Sidmouth Warriors Under-12s edged out by Heavies

Sidmouth Warriors were on the wrong end of a 3-2 score line when they travelled into Exeter to meet Heavitree.
The final score was hard on Warriors who contributed a great deal to a fine game in a contest that was spoiled by the gale-force wind.
Playing on a much larger than usual pitch, Warriors made a confident start, but, after spurning a number of decent opportunities they fell behind to a classic counter-attack from the first sortie into their half by the home side!
However, the response was excellent and, after good approach play by Samuel Rice and Connor Brown, Tim Goody’s cool finish restored parity.
In the second half the wind became even stronger and changed direction to blow directly towards the Warriors’ goal!
This meant every home attack was wind-assisted and, despite some heroic defending, the pressure eventually told, and the home side scored twice to lead 3-1.
Warriors kept plugging away and showed terrific spirit. It was no more than they deserved when Benedict Teague tucked away a one-on-one situation with the home glovesman.
That set up a grandstand finish, but try as they did, and they gave it their all, Warriors were unable to finds a third goal and so slipped to the narrowest of defeats.
