Sidmouth Warriors Under-9s drew one and lost one in matches with Exeter Panthers and Pink Panthers writes Chris Roberts.
First up against Pink Panthers the Warriors started slowly and fell behind to an own goal. Warriors responded well, but despite creating chance after chance they were enables to find a first half equaliser.
After the break there was more of the same with Warriors laying siege to the opposition goal.
A mixture of good defending, brave goal keeping and poor finishing denied Warriors until Oliver Loosemore struck, much to the relief of a large gathering of Warriors supporters.
Warriors’ glovesman Freddie Roberts made some smart save sin the game that ended with his team banking a deserved point.
Another slow start in game two saw Warriors slip two down to Panthers, one of them a penalty.
A third before the break sent Warriors in well behind. It was a much better second half show from Warriors and an early goal by the ever-willing Loosemore lifted the partisan crowd.
Thereafter the half was one of end-to-end action with both goal keepers making fine saves to deny further goals.
On the morning Warriors will no doubt have learnt a harsh lesson that you must convert your chances or at least some of them!
