The penultimate Saturday of October proved to be a superb one for Sidmouth RFC and FC as both won - and won well. Sidmouth Chiefs became the first team to win at Wellington in just over 18 months while Sidmouth Town booked a berth in the last 16 of their League Cup with a 4-2 Manstone Lane win over Axminster Town.

Sidmouth Town booked a last 16 berth in this season’s Walter C Parsons Cup with a 4-2 Manstone Lane victory over Axminster Town.

It proved to be a perfect start for the new management team of Kevin Tooze and Danny Burwood as they watched their charges exact revenge on an Axminster Town side that had beaten the Vikings 1-0 in the opening game of the current South West Peninsula League Eastern Division season.

The draw for round three (the last 16) was made after the round two matches and Town have been drawn away to Premier Division Cullompton Rangers who edged out St Martins in round two,, defeating the Saints on penalties after the sides drew 2-2 after extra-time.

The full third round draw: Mousehole v Ply Argyle, Elmore v Saltash, Liskeard v Ivybridge, Ilfracombe v Elburton, St Austell v Bodmin Town, Cullompton Rangers v SIDMOUTH TOWN and Falmouth Town v Brixham

In other local football, Sidmouth Town Reserves lost their Macron League Division One game at Heavitree United, beaten 5-1 by the Heavies and the Sidmouth Town fourth team were beaten 2-1 at Cowick Barton.

Tipton St John lost their Division Two game at University of Exeter 1-0, but there was a good away win for Ottery St Mary with the Otters bagging a 4-3 Division Three win at Tedburn St Mary. . In the same division, Otterton drew 2-2 at University fourths.

Rugby

Sidmouth RFC bagged themselves a superb away success as they claimed a 26-23 win at a Wellington side that had gone into the game having not suffered a home reversal since April 1, 2017 when they lost 48-5 to St Ives. But that run has been ended by the Chiefs who sit a point clear of Crediton at the top of the Western Counties (W) table this evening.
