Tipton St John 1, Cullompton Rangers 0

D & E Div 1

Tipton went into this match knowing that only a victory would keep them in the hunt for an outside chance of a top three finish, writes Richard Williams.

It was also their last game at Washbrook Meadow - the side having to find a new home for next season, after several years at their Ottery base.

They were without four of their regular starting line up, due to injury, illness and work commitments, which resulted in a couple of the Reserves stepping up and playing an important part in a fine all round team performance.

Both sides had chances in the first half but went in at the break goalless. Adam and Jamie Connett both had chances to score.

Tipton started the second half positively and Ash Holding and Jake Freeman went close.

The highlight of the game was when Glen Salter collected the ball on the left wing, ran with it and cut inside onto his right foot before hitting a superb curling shot into the far corner of the net to give Tipton a deserved lead. Within minutes Cullompton and Tipton had almost scored. Adam Connett and Jack Collins had further chances. This was a pleasing all round team performance. Man of the Match for Tipton was central defender Jake Freeman.

Next game is away to Chagford. Kick off 2.15pm.
