Archant

Sidmouth Town returned from their latest South West Peninsula League Eastern Division trip to Brixham with a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Town made a bright start and dominated possession for the opening 20 minutes.

The impressive Connor Swingler and Jordan Bastin both went close to scoring after going on mazy runs.

The best of the chances that Town created fell to Rob Knight, but his sweet strike cannoned back off the foot of the post.

half-time arrived with the game still seeking its first goal.

Whatever was said in the home dressing room during the break clearly worked as Brixham seemed to have an extra yard in their step from the restart.

They should have broken the deadlock on the hour mark, but were denied by a splendid save by Town glovesman Dan Stapleton.

Town could, perhaps should, have opened the scoring in the 70th minute!

Nathan Antat, normally so clinical in front of goal, found himself through one-on-one with the home goalkeeper, but the Town player stumbled at the crucial point and that gave the glovesman time to make a comfortable save.

Two minutes later Brixham went ahead when a defence-splitting pass was neatly tucked away.

Town were quick to respond and were soon back on the front foot ans swiftly into attack ent immediately on the attack with wing backs Antat and Ollie Binion causing the hosts all kinds of problems.

With 10 minutes remaining the outstanding Binion was hauled down in the area.

Normal penalty taker Tyler Wellman passed up the opportunity to make a name for himself and handed the responsibility over to Tom Tricker, who calmly rifled the ball home.

Town went in search of a winner and Bastin was a whisker away before, at the opposite end of the pitch, a wonderful last-minute save by Dan Stapleton left honours even.
