SIDMOUTH Reserves' manager Rob Fowler has been waiting a long time for victory and he got it on Sunday when the side beat Otterton in the Grandisson Cup. The match was ruled by the weather, Sidmouth working the advantage better, and all five goals in the 3-2 win were scored at one end. Otterton were 2-0 up by half time. With the wind at their backs in the opening half they opened the scoring through Jon Dack. Tom Bishop made it 2-0 after 28 minutes with a fine finish straight from a corner. Sidmouth held out and, in the second half, reduced a much-changed Otters side to hopeful punts against the wind. Sidmouth scored three goals inside a 20 minute spell to make the game safe. Fowler said: "We took as much time over everything as we could in the first half and defended like crazy after the break." He picked out youngsters Toby Gigg, right back, Tom Chaplin, left back, and Jordan Cooper for their outstanding performances. Two of the goals came from Chris Duchenski and one from Simon Hudson. It was a great improvement on Saturday's effort which failed to impress either Fowler or watching first team manager Paul Ashford. Sidmouth lost 3-2 away to University. Yes, the pitch was muddy and conditions weren't great, but Ashford was disappointed that the side didn't dig in when the going got tough. Dan Broom scored a good goal, rounding two players before tucking the ball into the net. Sidmouth's second strike glanced in off the University keeper but other highlights were few and far between. Ashford had been bitterly disappointed that their Premier match at Wingfield Park was called off and his side have a must-win scenario at Cullompton tomorrow. "We need to see where we are, and must pull something out of the game," he said. The Reserves are home to Lympstone in Senior 2 in a match sponsored by Carinas.
