Warriors and Raiders on warpath

Despite a hard fought performance by the Raiders, it could not prevent them from falling to a 4-2 defeat, writes Kim Lever.

Sidmouth Raiders FC U10s 2Westexe FC U10s 4Despite a hard fought performance by the Raiders, it could not prevent them from falling to a 4-2 defeat, writes Kim Lever. Raiders started well with an early chance from Roel Ruigrok which was deflected. Westexe were always on the attack with great defending and tackling skills from Josh Solman and Jonathon Surtees. The first goal came from a cross by Roel Ruigrok to Will Counsel who scored a great goal. Tyler Hillier made a great save, but Westexe managed to grab a goal which made it 1-1 at half time.Second half Johnny Dunn had a chance but went wide. Westexe scored their second goal. A crowded goal mouth prevented Hillier from gaining possession. Westexe scored quickly again. Next Calum Burns, quick on the defence with a good tackle, gave Will Counsel the ball to volley it past the keeper. A last goal came from Westexe which put the game beyond the Raiders' reach. Raiders FC U10s 2,Alphington U10s 4Both teams started this match as if they wanted to win it and a great first goal came from Johnny Dunn, with James Clarke commanding the left wing. Good headers from Will Counsel and Johnny Dunn were strong to clear any aerial threat from midfield. Tyler Hillier had to make skilful saves as Alphington took shots and finally scored. Jonathon Surtees cleared with a long kick from the defence which led to a corner, taken by Roel Ruigrok, which Josh Solman tapped in at a busy goal mouth.Alphington scored quickly in the second half. Calum Burns tackled his opponents with good ball skills and James Clarke defended well in midfield. In goal Tyler Hillier tried his best to keep the opposition at bay only for Alphington to score two late goals.Sidmouth U10s Warriors 2 Alphington 0 Playing on a wet pitch, Sidmouth allmost took the lead when a Alex Stone through ball found Connor Murphy who's shot hit the bar, writes Paul Newbery. Sidmouth were not playing with their normal fluency and it resulted in Alphington looking stronger. Finlay Marks in goal made two superb saves and, at halftime, Sidmouth brought on Ben Miller and Ollie Jarrett and that paid off when Joe Miller found Ben. His fine ball found Murphy to open the scoring. Jamie Newbery and Harvey Sargent defended well to keep a clean sheet and Stone played in Murphy who went around the keeper and passed to Jarrett to finish from close range. Jacob Rowe had a fine effort go just wide and Sidmouth finished the game 2-0 winnersSidmouth U10s Warriors 2, West Exe 0Sidmouth started slowly and Joe Miller made an excellent save as West Exe went close. Jamie Newbery had a superb game in defence as Sidmouth kept getting caught on the break as he made great tackles and clearances.Harvey Sargent then played Connor Murphy in and he was lucky to see the ball come back off the keeper to slide in and put Sid 1-0 up. Jacob Rowe, Finlay Marks and Alex Stone worked hard in midfield to keep the lead. In the second half Sidmouth continued to look jaded but a goal from Joe Miller which slipped through the keeper's hands gave them a 2-0 lead. Ollie Jarrett went close late on but Sidmouth won unconvincingly.
