West Hill Wasps 1, CS Tigers 1

West Hill Wasps Under-11s became the first team this season to deny CS Tigers all three points in an Exeter and District Youth League game.

The visitors began brightly and it took a fine save from Dominic Harrower in the Wasps goal to deny them the lead in the opening stages.

Harrower was powerless though to stop the Mid Devon side bagging the opening goal in the eighth minute from a right wing raid.

With the industry of Charlie Pullen, James Horler and Ben Marsh in the middle of the park, Wasps were giving as good as they go and, that first goal apart, defenders Will Amos, Bailey and Tom Simmonds made sure the lively visiting front men got precious little further opportunity and half-time arrived with Wasps just the one goal in arrears.

After the break Jonathan Pitcher and Ollie Pugsley were introduced and Wasps began to enjoy periods of dominance. Pullen saw a shot clip the top of the bar before both Marsh and Pugsley went close.

At the other end Tigers threatened, but again found Harrower and his back line equal to their best efforts.

The equaliser owed much to the excellent passing from Wasps and a left wing raid ended with Pugsley laying the ball back to Marsh who slotted home.

The score was no more than Wasps deserved and they were denied a winner when the Tigers keeper kept out a Pugsley effort with his feet. At the other end Tigers fashioned one last chance, but a combination of defenders and upright kept the ball out.

In a superb all-round show one player, James Horler, deserves special praise and he was named wasps Man of the Match.
