Following a light wind race on Saturday afternoon, which was won by Chris Clapp, Sunday saw the annual Ex-Commodores Cup team racing event with four ex-commodores sailing amongst the two eight-boat teams overseen by the current commodore in one of the safety boats, writes Oliver Salter. The series of three races were split into Laser and Scorpion fleets for the first two and an all-in final race, all sailed on a square course which gave some close, competitive sailing. After pre-race tactical talks from team leaders Miles Hapgood and Oliver Salter, the sailors took to the water in this unfamiliar format when the whole team's performance was important and led to the faster boats holding up opponents to allow fellow team members to overtake. In the light wind race one Miles' Scorpion team and Oliver's Lasers took the honours making it all square. Race two saw an increase in wind strength and, after some major position changes, Oliver's Lasers and Scorpions just eased ahead. The final race saw the 16 boats all jostling for position and boats ganging up against opponents in a very close affair. Miles just managed to bring his team ahead finishing with 671/2 points to Oliver's 68. The event was enjoyed by all the competitors and spectators and thanks are due to Keith Brodie, the Paul's Hackett and Channing and James Francis for the race management and safety boat cover. The teams consisted of the following, shown in the photo after the event.Oliver's team - Oliver Salter, Heather Martin, James Salter, Simon Price, David Martin, Tom Francis, H Thompson, Steve Hackett and Andy Mitchell.Miles' team - Miles Hapgood, Steve Smith, Andy Hayman, Nick Jennings, Sally Stevens, Chris Clapp, John Nicolle, Bob Vine, Paul Wilson and Paul Kennedy.
