It was a top-of-the-table clash for Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club’s men’s fifth team last weekend and it was the home side that came out on top.

Over recent seasons, the side has faced some challenging scorelines but this season it has developed a winning mentality and now sits clear at the top of the table.

Taking on Isca on the pitch at Ottery St Mary, it was clear from the outset that it was going to be a competitive game, with both sides playing some tidy hockey.

But it was the home side that drew first blood, when striker Steve Ellison’s shot was blocked on its way to the goal, and Rob Wilson converted the penalty flick.

SOHC extended the lead when the Isca keeper was unable to save a shot from Phil Bowyer, only to see it roll softly over the line. While Isca scored once in the second half, SOHC held on to get all the points.
