Fourths' best efforts in fine first half

Sidmouth HC Men's 4th XI 0, Taunton CS 2A GOAL in each half gave the visiting side a deserved win although Sidmouth did have their chances.The first half saw both teams evenly matched with opportunities at both ends.Making a rare appearance for the fourths, Simon Olive worked hard in midfield to set up some scoring chances, only for the strong defence to see off the final pass.Tyron Le Roux also played well, beating several players in each run but the home side was unable to make the attacks count.At the other end, the Sidmouth defenders kept Taunton at bay, with good performances from John Bradley and Neil Hook. Sonny Bigwood, in goal, also put in a good display, making some key saves.Sidmouth were unlucky to go into half time a goal down, with the ball creeping over the line, despite efforts to keep it out, just minutes before the interval.In the second half, the difference between the sides became more obvious, with Taunton playing a short-passing game with great success. Sidmouth were put under great pressure throughout the half but resolute defending kept them in the game.Olive had the best Sidmouth chance of the half but he was forced wide by the goalie and the attack came to nothing. It was not long after that Taunton got their second goal to seal the points.Sidmouth travel to Exeter this week to take on Ashmoor in what will be a tough encounter.
