Sidmouth entertained a team of four rinks from Seaton in a friendly match, writes Carol Smith.

On this occasion we proved to be rather ‘too friendly’ as Seaton won on three of the four rinks and they also managed a whitewash!

One of our rinks was doing very well and looked like having a decent win, but then, going into the last end, they were six shots up, but that all changed quite dramatically for, prior to Sidmouth skip Frank Adlam playing his last wood, they were six shots down! Oh dear…

Frank admits he was a bit lucky as he managed to come in for sixth shot so Sidmouth won by a single shot at 24-23.

However, overall, the score ended 91-71 in favour of Seaton – well, at least we sent them home happy!

The successful Sidmouth rink was the one of Ann England, Roy Jeffries, Liz Boyle and skip Frank Adlam. In the men’s county senior rinks Section Three final, our men lost to yet another Madeira team. The final score was 19 shots to Sidmouth and 21 shots to Madeira. Well done, to our team of Ken Robertson, Ken Wheeler, Mike Borst and skip Chris Nappin for getting as far as you did – I think it’s a case of ‘so near and yet so far’!

In the Exeter and District Over-60s Triples League, Sidmouth A went down again, this time beaten by Dawlish Marina. This means that they have now dropped down the league, but there is still plenty of time for improvement!

Sidmouth ladies’ Over-50s Blue team are also not doing so well at present, but again, there’s plenty of time for improvement – we certainly hope so!

Finally, in another busy week for Sidmouth bowlers, the men’s County Trophy against Honiton only bagged two points, losing overall 80-65. We did have one good winning rink and that was the one of Ray Tallent, John Chew, John Mason and skip Bob Seldon, who enjoyed a 31-23 success.
