Despite the inclement weather, the club has not had to cancel any matches, unlike many others, and were pleased to welcome Budleigh to a friendly match.
It resulted in a very close finish, with Sidmouth just hanging on to win. S Miller, M Bristow, P Harvie, W Limpus 19-7; G Cronk, M Price, S Cook, E Clements.18-17.
On Friday, several members of the club were attending the Bridge Club Christmas lunch, 18 were playing Friday triples and yet it was still possible to send a full team away to Madeira and to win overall 58-55!
Sidmouth’s best rink was B Farmer, M Smith, A Constable, W Limpus 29-15. It is gratifying to perceive such enthusiasm and support!
●Another successful week for the Men’s section in the first round of the County Charles Parrot competition with a good win against Mid Devon. The competition is played on one rink at home and one away with only players who have no county qualification allowed to play. For Sidmouth, Robert Cartlidge, Peter Mison, Jim Wrench and skip Brian Smith had a convincing 29-13 win at home.
The away team struggled on a fast rink at Mid Devon, losing 14-24, with Sidmouth having a minor scare dropping four shots home and away on the last end. However, that saw Sidmouth progress to the second round, on shot difference, which will be against Dawlish in January.
In the course of the week, Sidmouth played an all men’s friendly match at ISCA, who proved too strong for Sidmouth, winning by 61 shots to 35. Best rink for Sidmouth were Bill Dunbar, Ken Hutton, Ron Graham and skip John Mason drawing 18 18.
On Sunday, a team travelled to Honiton for a mixed match which was a runaway victory for Honiton by 102 to 51. There was, however, a sterling performance by one of the new bowlers, Wilf Radburn, playing in his first away game, which is very encouraging for the future.
On Sunday, a total of 34 bowlers played a friendly match with a lunch between two sessions. This was the first Sunrise League match which will be held again on the first of January with a Champagne Lunch to celebrate the start of the New Year.
