Sidmouth Under-13 girls entertained Crediton in their latest match.

The Sidmouth girls have been in good form this season, having beaten arch rivals Kingsbridge and drawn with Paignton and Weston Hornets.

Against Crediton, Sidmouth made a powerful start and the try count was started when Ellie Wood reached over her head for the try line when lying prone on the ground and Harriet Austin-Rigby ran in a couple of tries out wide.

Crediton enjoyed more of the ball at the start of the second quarter and ran in three tries, but Sidmouth were soon back on the front foot and, with Lucy Spiller playing well as the Sidmouth scrum half with some excellent controlled kicking, Sidmouth also ran in three tries with Gracie Hurson crossing for two of them.

Crediton began the third quarter with a new sense of urgency, but they were made to work hard by some determined play from the likes of Abi Hext and Rosie Moore, who both cased their wingers at will, and Lucy Moore, who looked to stop any direct running at every opportunity. Lucy Moore also got on to the score sheet with a superb solo try, but Crediton ran in four tries during the quarter, despite Abi Alner’s excellent play that saw her take her own tackle count into double figures!

Going in to the final quarter the Sidmouth girls realised they had a job on their hands to get ‘back into the game’.

Some of the older heads put their markers down early with Immy Bagwell stopping a strong Crediton runner in her tracks and Lottie Reed knocking back a few more.

With the momentum stopped, Crediton looked unsure of themselves and Ellie Monro Higgs took advantage, breaking a tackle to score in the corner after a 30-yard chase.

Lottie Reed then kicked ahead for Gracie Hurson to touch down in the corner.

Not to be outdone, the other Sidmouth girls kept the momentum with Jess Perry and Amy Scott going over the line to score.

The final whistle went with Sidmouth clear of Crediton, but both sides deserve plenty of credit for their combined contributions to a compelling encounter.
