Taunton Vale 5, SOHC 2 A young looking Sidmouth and Ottery ladies 1st XI travelled to meet a very experienced Taunton Vale III in the opening league game of the season, writes Gus McVey.

The game was end to end with both teams playing some very strong, physical play. Nicky Bishop put Sidmouth and Ottery ahead from a straight short corner strike only for Taunton to equalise ten minutes later. Bishop struck again in the 20th minute from a rebounded shot from Lea Pidgeon, but two further home goals sent the hosts into the interval 3-2 to the good.

Sidmouth were still in the game with some great open play from Sarah Roberts and Anna Kingsley, but the home side dominated midfield in the first quarter of the second half and were rewarded with two more deflected goals from open play. Sidmouth and Ottery came back in the latter part of the game with some great defending from the backs control by captain Sarah Hutchings.

Sidmouth and Ottery did get plenty of short corners. However, they were unable to take advantage and so slipped to an opening day defeat.

Next up is tomorrow’s Sidmouth College encounter against Old Bristolians with push-back being 12 nooon.
