Goals galore in junior matches

The boys had to work extra hard with no subs, but dominated the game in the first half. Despite that they struggled to score.

After the break Josh Miller replaced Jack Howe as goal keeper. West Exe scored, but the Warriors soon got back into the game. Defenders Ben Harrison and Jack Howe started pushing the ball forward, Thomas Mead and Richie tackled well and placed the ball nicely for Toby Neumegan to equalise. West Exe scored a second, but Warriors never gave up. After some great corners and tackling from Thomas Mead, the ball fell for Harry Emmett to score. Thomas Mead got the winning goal.

In the second match, Sidmouth Warriors U8s beat Alphington Panthers 4-2.

Harry Emmett, in goal, made some terrific saves. Goals were scored by Thomas Mead, Toby Neumegan, 2, and Richie Drewett after great work from all involved. Get well soon to Calvin Clifford, one of the players who is out at the moment with a broken leg,from all the players, managers and parents.

?Sidmouth Raiders U8s were quickly into gear against Alphington Panthers, but lost 7-4, writes Justin Ashby.

Skilful play was rewarded with a lovely team goal - a great interchange between Benedict Teague and Samuel Burhop on the right and Joe Ashby slotted home at the far post. The Raiders hit the woodwork twice and were unlucky to concede an equaliser. The Raiders quickly regained the lead, but sat back, allowing a strong Alphington team to dominate - and conceded five goals in five minutes!

The Greens found their tackling boots again and Louis Silk pulled two goals back. Man of the Match was Joe Ashby.

West Exe handed out a lesson in winning the ball in the second game.

Sidmouth were 3-1 down at half-time, Will Bond scoring from a superb Lewis Rowden corner. In the second half, Sidmouth competed for every ball, restricting the home team to very few chances. Final score West Exe 3-1 Sidmouth Raiders. Man of the Match was C J Abbott.

STJV Warriors u9s beat Countess Wear Dynamos 6-1, writes Mark Pugsley.

In a scrappy first half Sidmouth finally broke the deadlock when a throw in from Ryan Griffith's found Ollie Pugsley who put a lovely through ball to Jordan Fowler to slot home.

Josh Roberts, Sid's keeper for the day was quickly called into action but was able to make a great save. In a five minute spell the Dynamos caused Sidmouth all sorts of problems but the ever-reliable Louis Stamp halted their attempts with some fantastic tackling.

Sidmouth doubled their lead when a Fowler free kick came off Griffiths and rolled over the line. Countess Wear pulled one back but Sidmouth began to take control. Sam Pyne won a great header to release Pugsley to slot one home in the bottom corner. Tyler Wood and Fowler scored and strong work from Dylan Lascelles enabled Wood to score again with a shot just inside the near post.

In their second match Sidmouth Warriors U9s beat Beacon Knights 10-0.

Pugsley opened the scoring. Fantastic passing football enabled Pyne to scramble the ball over the line. Pyne's second and third goals quickly followed with crosses from Pugsley. Conor McNamara Campbell soon made it 5-0 with a great shot from the edge of the box.

Pugsley was able to split the Knight’s defence enabling both him and Fowler to score. Pugsley scored again. McNamara Campbell grabbed three quick goals. Great teamwork boys

?Sidmouth Town Junior Vikings U9 Raiders beat Beacon Knights 1-0, writes Wade Monaghan .

A good strong start from the Raiders saw good defending from Thomas West, Ben Scrivens and a brilliant save from Isaac James.

Jake Jones and Scott Gibson both went close before Cole Monaghan scored from a penalty. The second half saw more of the same close action with both teams battling for control with some great midfield play from Theo Burne and Finlay Morgan, strong defending from Oliver Jones and Thomas West. Finlay Morgan had a shot go close.

Sidmouth Raiders went on to beat CW Dynamos 5-0.

A strong start from the Raiders set Cole Monaghan up for the first goal early on.

A good long ball from Theo Burne led to a fabulous corner from Finlay Morgan which unfortunately did not find the back of the net.

The second half saw Isaac James make a good save , the ball being quickly cleared by Jake Jones to Alexander Mitchell for a strong counter attack. The second goal of the game was crossed in by Thomas West and hit home by Scott Gibson who followed up with two more.

? Sidmouth U10 raiders drew 2-2 with Cullompton away, writes Martin Spiller.

Within the first minute Thomas Moore sent the ball from the right to Jed's waiting foot to score. The Raiders’ second was scored by Thomas Moore. Cullompton took stock and fought back. Thomas Blackham and Ben Goodier kept them at bay and at half time Sidmouth were 2-0 up.

The second half saw a determined Cullompton push hard.

They scored twice to level. Man of the Match was Thomas Blackham

In the next game Raiders lost 1-0 to a sturdy Feniton which had already beaten them in cup action.

Despite hard work Feniton scored before half time.

In the second half Raiders went close but couldn’t score.

? Sidmouth U10 Warriors played some eye-catching football in two cracking matches against Feniton and Cullompton (away at Cullompton), writes Alex Spalding.

Against first opponents Feniton the boys went 2-0 down after just two minutes, but instead of losing heart kept possession and control until their football started to flow.

The Warriors created chance after chance, but couldn't quite finish. The second half was a thriller. Toby Garrick was outstanding in right midfield, winning back possession and several times playing Louis Spalding and Jack Miller through, each eventually scoring to make it 2-2. A momentary lapse let Feniton score a third, but the boys' superior pressure and commitment soon paid off, and Louis Spalding equalised to make it 3-3. Toby Garrick was Man of the Match.

The Cullompton match was another nail-biter. The Warriors got into their stride quickly, James Emmett especially strong on the right wing.

Matt Salter was superb on his goalkeeping debut, making two awesome close-range saves and unlucky when one rebounded to an opponent's foot for a 1-0 lead.

Again, the boys responded superbly, by working harder and being first to the ball every time. In defence Archie Marchant timed every tackle to perfection, while in midfield Jack Miller and Jay Harris never let their opponents settle.

The pressure told and Louis Spalding put the ball away coolly for the Warriors, 1-1. Matt Salter was a handful on the right in the second half, one move eventually finished by Man of the Match Jay Harris with a great right foot into the corner. Cullompton equalised against the run of play and it finished 2-2 but the home side knew they'd been lucky - even the ref said how well Sidmouth’s boys played. Couldn't agree more, well done lads!

?STJV Raiders Under-11s earned their first point of the season against Inter Heavitree, writes Mark Pugsley.

After playing magnificently in their last match Raiders were determined that this would be their day.

The Raiders were putting the Heavitree defence under pressure from the beginning. Some great passing from Adam Harris allowed his fellow midfielders, Jack Gibson and Reuben Raffell to slip their opposition. Scott Hughes and Jordan Parsons were provided with plenty of scoring opportunities and it wasn't long before Hughes bagged Sidmouth's first goal. Shortly after Parsons added another and at half time Raiders were leading 2-0.

The second half saw Heavitree come back into the game more and full backs Jaylen Burne and Joe Tweedy did a great job of making sure they didn't get through. Tobi Pugsley and Gabe Stamp both did a fantastic jobs covering the defence in the sweeper position.

However Heavitree did manage to get back into the game by scoring two in the second half. In fact, if it wasn't for Drew Birkhead’s last ditch save, Raiders would have left with nothing.

As it was they held on and managed to notch up their first point of the season. Well done boys!

?Sidbury U14s had an injury hit side against CS Juve, writes Julie Logan.

This is usually a very tight game and so it proved again. The match was played in a great spirit with some delightful football from both teams.

Sidbury had Cody Northcott acting as stand in goalkeeper, and Kieran Murphy filling in at left back. Matters got even worse for United when, after 25 mins, Aaron Pearse pulled up injured after watching his free kick hit the bar. Harry Wright switched to centre half to partner Rob Mansfield. Jack Murrell played as the lone striker and Harry Elliott slotted into midfield.

Sidbury came close to opening the scoring from a Zac Mattin corner which was eventually scrambled away. Ben Logan, Rob Mansfield, Kieran Murphy and Harry Wright were resilient and work tirelessly in defence.

Ben Kidson put Sidbury into the lead just before half time, when he picked up a pass from Jake Lucas on the right flank. He out paced the defender and shot high into the far corner.

Having used their only uninjured sub so early, it was obvious that Sidbury would eventually tire in the second half.

CS Juve piled on the pressure and equalised with a great move and a superb finish from a tight angle. Sidbury were still dangerous on the counter and came close on a couple of occasions.

On the left of midfield Zac Mattin was immense, Bill Reed Harry Elliott and Hamish Culling all played big parts in the game and their contribution was vital. Sidbury regained the lead with just eight mins remaining, when Bill Reed from 25 yards out hit a speculative volley which just dipped under the bar, leaving the keeper no chance.
