Honiton Tigers U8s took a squad of ten players to Exeter Saracens on Sunday and produced some decent rugby to claim two wins, a draw and a defeat in the four matches they played.

Robert Hennessy was on great form as he scored a double hat-trick in a high-scoring, 13-12 win in the opening game.

Each member of the team managed to score at least one try. Making up the tally were Tyler Patch (3), Charlie Pickering, Finley Offer-Hoar and Jake Carter.

Hennessy continued his scoring exploits in the second game, dotting down a hat-trick, but it wasn’t enough as the visitors succumbed to a 6-5 reverse. Patch and Carter claimed the other scores.

Harvey Hannay scored what the hosts’ coach described as ‘try of the day’ as he earned his side a 9-9 draw in their opening game.

Hannay scored five tries while Ewan Powers-Maguire (2), Finley Backhouse and Alfie Terry also scored. C J Nequest produced some excellent tagging and passing.

Backhouse shone in the second game which ended in an 8-6 win. He scored five tries while Hannay (2) and Powers-Maguire also crossed. Terry and Nequest battled through this match nursing slight injuries.

Coach Jon Hannay said: “There were some comical tries at times and it was pleasing to see some of the hard work we have put into training pay off when it came to our defence.

“There is still room for some improvement but plenty of pleasing aspects.
