Sidmouth A, 3 Ottery Crickets A 1

An eagerly anticipated derby fixture between the two local rivals, separated in the league by three points, was always going to be a close encounter, writes Scott Rumens.

The home side started brighter and took the lead when Ryan Bunn’s looped cross found captain Jon Pike at the back post the to break the deadlock. A second followed when a long cross field pass by Mark Mingo found Pike unmarked in the D to calmly tuck away his second of the game.

After the break, the visitors soon scored on a swift counter-attack. With the game in the balance, Sidmouth goalkeeper Bret Newbury’s fine one- handed stop from point blank range kept the visitors from equalising. This was the turning point. With moments to go, Mingo’s low cross was deflected in to seal the victory for the home side.

On Monday the ‘dubious goals panel’ met and awarded the final goal to Sidmouth midfielder Scott "two hands" Rumens.
