Exeter Chiefs U13s 10, Sidmouth RFC U13s 34 Sidmouth U13s visited Exeter Chiefs, a team which had been unbeaten in all competitions. A tremendous team effort produced a victory against well organised opponents in a hard-fought match. The boys set their intentions out early with a try down the right flank for 'galloping' full-back Jack Faulkner and a massive tackle by Sam Carlisle in the centre of the field which left his opponent three metres back from where he started. The match continued with the battle of the forwards being won in the rucks by the strength and technique of John Pares, Liam Rutland, Lewis Headon, Martin Welsford (capt) with Xenon Kearns and Barney Cooper getting involved at speed. Sidmouth's scrum was dominant and the backs' possession used well, allowing the wings Jack Dicks and Keelan Malec to make ground. In midfield Christian Goddard, Will Jenkins and Jack Harris pressurised their opposite numbers, leaving them no time to settle and, as a result, Sidmouth were able to capitalise with two further scores for Faulkner, the last an awkward catch on the move from a Chiefs' clearance followed by a run past three of the defence. Strong tackling from JPR, Goddard, Kearns, Headon and scrum-half Euan East (including a try-saver from Faulkner) helped to disrupt the Chiefs' attacks and Carlisle continued the scoring with tries either side of half time. Replacements Haydon Down, Lee Clayden, Tom Norris and Toby Seldon continued the good work and a final solo effort from Carlisle, riding several tackles before putting the ball down in the corner, produced the final try of the game.
