Sidmouth and East Devon Fencer Grace Williams started the new season in a strong position after an excellent performance at the Senior British Championships.
The 17-year-old won five of her six poule fights: 5-3, 5-2, 5-1, 5-0, 5-0, losing the sixth fight 3-5 to the current UK senior number 3.
This gave her a seeding of =9th and a bye to the last 32. She sailed through the last 16 fight using intelligent, well- timed attacks to take a 15-2 victory.
In the fight to get into the last eight she faced the UK number 1 junior and struggled to defend against her opponent's powerful attacks, ending the second period 10-2 down. Never one to give up easily, she then changed tactics in the third period and, using pure determination, went on to score another nine hits before eventually being knocked out 15-11. Overall, Grace finished in 10th place, a fantastic achievement which gives her a current UK Senior ranking of 17th and a UK Junior ranking of ninth.
