Sidmouth & Ottery Men’s C 4, Torbay A 1

Sidmouth and Ottery HC Men’s C started brightly in the first league game of the season at Sidmouth College, writes Greg Seward.

A youthful side were looking to get going early in the season, but started slowly, being unable to capitalise with having an extra man at the start of the match, However as the half progressed George Galbraith took the initiative by making some excellent runs on the right flank and causing trouble to the opposition defence. After a series of half chances, Sidmouth and Ottery took the lead,

A slick pass from Ben Gibbs found Billy Eveleigh who finished smartly from close range. Despite taking the lead, the home side didn’t finish the half well, and conceded a goal from a short corner. Once the second half begun Sidmouth and Ottery eventually took the game to Torbay and looked more likely to score. Galbraith continued pressing on the right, linking well with Nick Wade and the home side were playing decent hockey.

A succession of short corners were awarded from the pressure and Billy Eveleigh fired home two great strikes to complete his hat-trick, Wade completed the scoring with a goal from yet another short corner. Sidmouth and Ottery finished the game well maintaining the possession and keeping strong in defence.
