There was a good week of gliding weather for the members of the May course, writes Jill Harmer.

There were plenty of opportunities for both soaring and training flights with Instructors Peter Smith and Mike Sloggett.

There was a good mix with existing members - local graphics designer Hans Jenssen from Culmstock, John Borland from Minehead, Tim Petty from Ilminster, Roy Love and new members Andy Williams and Steve Carter.

Hans and John achieved their first one-hour soaring flights solo - the first step towards flying cross-country, whilst Andy and Steve who had both flown gliders previously and were current power pilots were able to refresh their skills in silent flight.

There are real benefits in the consolidation that a course week offers, as the places get booked up really quickly each year, but the first step is to find out about trial lessons at Devon and Somerset Gliding Club, purchase and book on-line by visiting the club’s website at www.dsgc.co.uk
