Sidmouth Croquet Club hosted a golf croquet tournament last weekend in which nine competitors each played 16 games in weather that brought hail, cold and sun in near equal measure.
Six visitors had initially entered but illness reduced them to three, from Norwich, Hove and Ryde.
The two highest scores were gained by home players, Cliff Jones and Ken Wallman, who then played in a final late on Sunday afternoon. Cliff Jones set the tone for a tough opening round with an impressive jump shot through hoop one, winning by 7 hoops to five. Ken fought back in the second game with some excellent long shots to beat Cliff 7-5. The final game saw two very tired finalists battle it out for the title. Cliff came through to win the competition with another 7-5 victory.
