Ottery St Mary Reserves were done with favours by the time they reached King George Playing Fields. Last week their victory over Thorverton saw Lord's rise to second in the table. After weathering the storm for the first five minutes, Ottery started to attack the Lord's back four. Potter was lively up front, looking to add to his 11 goals this season for the Reserves, and it wasn't long before indecision saw the ever alert Scott Halliday nip in to poach the first.Minutes later Potter headed a similar goal just over the keeper who was caught in nomansland. On the half hour Potter bagged his second from a corner. The Otters were punishing every mistake and Minto and Harry won possession with some well timed challenges. Sean Durkin has been lacking goals all season and he felt this might be his day. It was, but unfortunately his bullet header beat Dale Strawbridge, the Ottery keeper, giving Lord's a lifeline. Two minutes later Ads Bridson hit a screamer into the goal but the referee ruled it offside. After half time Ottery had to focus on seeing out the game, no mean feat against a team who have scored nearly 50 goals this season. The first 10 minutes were scrappy but Mahmut Olmez neatly finished an attack down the right to slot home his sixth goal of the season and make it 4-1. Dan Jewell, 16, made his Ottery debut, coming on at left wing, and immediately got into the game with some terrific mazey runs.Felix, also making his debut, capped a fantastic 15 minutes with a beautiful half volley right into the corner of the goal. Lord's XI did score again, but the damage had been done and the unbeaten run in the league had stretched to eight. Man of the Match was Potter. l Ottery St Mary 1sts drew 3-3 away to Okehampton in the Peninsula League East Division and are home to Teignmouth, 2.45pm, on Saturday.
